“Miracle” came into being as a project that celebrates the beauty of all that is imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. The global pandemic made me pause and rethink what is truly meaningful. It is the simple gifts of life that matter - the light that hits the hairs on a plant, the curve of an emerging smile, the accidental petal that lands just right, the ginkgo leaves that fill the void, etc.
I am a life-long haiku poet as well as a photographer. Miracle is my way of writing haiku poems visually. The use of black and white allows me to focus on such things as textures, shapes and composition. Every image is an invitation to treasure here and now suspended in between the future and the past.
The prints in this project were created by transferring ink from a transparency to Arches 88 watercolor paper using alcohol-based transfer medium. The transfer technique complements the idea of smooth transition into the realm of personal epiphanies I invite my viewers to enjoy.
